Section drawing

Eave to ridge, in five details.

Scroll and the drawing travels up the pitch. Every roof we quote is written this way.

  1. 01 Eave

    Drip edge and starter

Water leaves the roof here or it goes into the fascia. Metal first, then a sealed starter course.

    Detail
    Drip edge over ice barrier
    Fixing
    Nailed at 8 in centres
  2. 02 Deck

    Sheathing and underlayment

Soft plywood gets cut out and replaced. Only then does the water barrier go down.

    Check
    Every sheet walked
    Barrier
Ice and water at eaves and valleys
  3. 03 Field

    The courses

Straight courses, staggered joints, nails in the strip. This is the part storms test.

    Exposure
    Set to the maker spec
    Nails
6 per shingle in wind zones
  4. 04 Valley

    Flashing and penetrations

Valleys, chimneys, boots and skylights. Most leaks we chase started at one of these.

    Method
    Woven or open metal
    Boots
    Replaced, never resealed
  5. 05 Ridge

    Ventilation and cap

Air in at the soffit, out at the ridge. A hot deck ages a new roof early.

    Intake
    Soffit cleared
    Exhaust
    Continuous ridge vent

Roof damage after a Gulf Coast wind storm, shingles lifted along the ridge

After a storm, the order matters.

Water first, paperwork second, roof third. Do it the other way round and the claim gets harder.

Stop the water

Tarp and dry

A crew tarps the opening and gets moisture out of the ceiling before it spreads.

Document it

Photograph every slope

Damage is shot from the roof and the ground, dated, and sent to you as a file, not a promise.

Rebuild

Back to the drawing

The roof goes back on to the same written scope you approved, detail by detail.

Homeowner notes

The wall gets re-laid, course by course.

Wind took shingles off half our street. They inspected the same week, met our adjuster on the roof, and had the new roof on in a day.
